Ms. Collegiate Mom Pageant set for November 6, 2012

Applications are now be accepted for the 2012-13 Ms. Collegiate Mom Scholarship Pageant, set for November 6 at Prairie View A&M University, in the Willie A. Tempton, Sr. Memorial Student Center.

Ms. Kiara Schaffer of Seattle, Washington made pageant history when she was crowned Ms. Collegiate Mom 2010, the first pageant of its kind in the world. The pageant was held on Dec. 1 at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.  Schaffer is the proud mother of twin daughters.


Last year  Tiesha J. Seabrook from Atlanta, Georgia emerged as the winner of the 2nd Annual Pageant held at the university on November 11, 2011.  

Tiesha is a Junior in Animal Science at Prairie View and is the mother of Autumn and Aubri Ross.  She is a proud graduate of Stephenson High School in Atlanta.  Her ambition is to one day become a veterinarian. Her talent is poetry and she has also been honored to be on the Dean’s List. She enjoys cheerleading, broccoli & cheese, Kirk Franklin, and Aaliyah. She stands on the platform that she would stand by mothers continuing to receive an education and also awareness of pregnancy. His community activities include food drives, volunteering at elementary schools and assisting with cleaning up her campus. If she could invite anyone to her fantasy dinner it would be

her lovely Grandmother.

The purpose of the Ms. Collegiate Mom™ Scholarship Pageant Program (MCMSP) is to serve as a source of excellence for college women through programs that enhance their education, economic and social involvement, role-modeling and community service. The pageant was created in May 2010 and the first one will be staged on December 1, 2010 at Prairie View A&M University.

Contestants compete in the following categories with the percentage weight as noted: 1. Personal/Private Interview (20%); 2. Platform Expression-Oratory (25%); 3. Talent (35%); 4. Evening Wear (10%) and 5. On-stage Interview/Question (10%). The candidate with the highest total is the winner, with the attendants in the next order. The decision of the judges is final.

The pageant provides programs for personal and professional development, self esteem and confidence building, leadership skills and developing a sense of responsibility to helping young women to further their careers and will help them to develop the spirit of competition. The pageant differs from other pageants because it provides opportunities for mothers who are prohibited from participation in traditional campus pageants.

The focus is not on the physical attributes rather emphasis is placed on the intellectual, personal character, self esteem, economic empowerment and commitment to serve as role models and community involvement. The pageant is open to women enrolled in any college or university and provides scholarships to assist the candidates in achieving their college goals.
